Kylian Mbappé is set to leave PSG next June. According to L’Equipe, PSG has considered applying significant pressure to convince him to activate his contract extension clause.

Has PSG thought about a strategy of retaliation? According to L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain has seriously considered demoting Kylian Mbappé to the role of substitute and leaving him on the bench during crucial moments of the season, especially in European competitions. This was aimed at persuading him to reconsider his decision not to extend his contract.

However, as confirmed by L’Equipe, PSG ultimately did not pursue this option. Nonetheless, Luis Enrique has indeed benched Mbappé during Ligue 1 matches. Is this a form of punishment? Not officially, at least. The Parisian coach has repeatedly stated that he is preparing for the future without Kylian Mbappé.

“Officially, Luis Enrique is ‘preparing for the future,’ but it’s hard not to think that this is also a final act of revenge from a club that struggles with dissent,” suggests the sports newspaper.
