One day after PSG qualified for the Champions League final, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi travelled to Strasbourg on Thursday evening to support the last French club still competing in Europe.
Present in the stands at La Meinau for the Conference League semi-final second leg against Rayo Vallecano, the PSG president hoped to see Racing Club continue its European adventure.
Strasbourg Fall Short Against Rayo Vallecano
But the presence of the PSG chairman was not enough. Already beaten in the first leg, the Alsatian side suffered another defeat against the Spanish club (0-1) after a very disappointing performance. Outplayed in intensity, technically sloppy and often second best in duels, Gary O’Neil’s men spent most of the match under pressure without truly threatening Rayo.
Strasbourg eventually cracked just before half-time when Alemão scored after several saves from Penders. Despite a more aggressive reaction after the break and a few late chances, Racing lacked composure in decisive moments. Enciso even saw his penalty saved in stoppage time, perfectly summing up a frustrating evening for the entire stadium.
More mature and far more clinical, Rayo Vallecano logically booked their place in the Conference League final. Strasbourg, meanwhile, exit Europe through the back door despite the support of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and an electric atmosphere at La Meinau.
