Outstanding in defense against Bayern Munich (1-1) on Wednesday night, Willian Pacho played a major role in Paris Saint-Germain’s qualification for another Champions League final.
Solid throughout the match, the Ecuadorian center-back was rewarded with the UEFA Man of the Match award. After the final whistle, the Paris defender’s smile reflected the squad’s satisfaction after winning a hard-fought battle at the Allianz Arena.
Pacho Praises PSG’s Collective Strength
“We are very, very happy to be playing another Champions League final,” Pacho said to Canal+, before also speaking about his personal performance: “I’m also very happy on a personal level for this award.”
The 24-year-old defender mainly highlighted the collective strength shown by PSG during this semi-final clash: “I’m very proud of my team and the commitment we showed. We have a very strong squad.”
Facing Bayern’s pressure, Paris had to suffer at times, something Pacho now sees as part of the team’s identity: “We suffered but we fought. That’s what defines us: playing as a team and defending as a team.” The Ecuador international also emphasized the importance of teamwork across the pitch: “The forwards help us a lot, and we help them. That’s what makes the difference.” PSG will now face Arsenal in the final on May 30 with the ambition of retaining their European title.
