“France Is No Longer OM, It Is PSG”: Christophe Galtier Impressed by Luis Enrique

Author: Mister M.

Christophe Galtier is still keeping a close eye on PSG. Three years after leaving the French capital, the former Paris coach has expressed his admiration for the work being done by Luis Enrique. However, he also highlights the roles played by Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi in transforming the Parisian project. Galtier spoke about the club in an interview with Le Parisien published this week.

A lot has changed at PSG since Galtier was in charge during the 2022-2023 season. Luis Enrique has taken over the team and the club has significantly changed its sporting strategy, building a squad more closely tailored to the coach’s needs. It is an evolution that has impressed Galtier. “He has control over many different aspects and I really admire what he is achieving,” the current Neom coach said about Luis Enrique.

Galtier Highlights the Difference With His PSG

But his praise for the Spaniard also comes with an interesting observation about his own spell in Paris. Galtier highlighted “Luis Campos’ ability to build a squad in the coach’s image,” before adding that the Portuguese sporting adviser “wasn’t able to” do so when they arrived together in 2022. According to Galtier, the circumstances surrounding the project have changed considerably since his departure. Alongside Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Campos and Luis Enrique, PSG have changed their recruitment strategy to build a “young, talented and dynamic” team that is better suited to the Spanish coach’s philosophy. Luis Enrique now enjoys considerable trust from the club, which recently extended his contract until 2030.

Galtier went even further when discussing PSG’s place in French football. “They are very enjoyable to watch,” he said, before making a striking comparison with Marseille’s famous team of the early 1990s: “In 1993, France was Olympique de Marseille; today, France is PSG.” It is a major compliment from a coach who not only managed Paris but was also born and developed as a player in Marseille.

For Galtier, the current PSG side have therefore moved beyond simply dominating French football. In his view, the Parisian club has become the leading showcase for French football, with a sporting project now built around a clear identity and the philosophy of Luis Enrique.
