PSG vs Aston Villa in One Month: Which Players Will Be Ready?

Paris Saint-Germain are already starting to look ahead to the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa, scheduled for August 12. And one question naturally arises: what starting eleven will Luis Enrique be able to field for this first major fixture of the season?

Portugal’s elimination against Spain is a huge disappointment for the Seleção, but it could be good news for PSG. Vitinha, João Neves and Nuno Mendes will now be able to return, rest, and gradually prepare for their comeback in Paris. The squad is set to resume training on July 25, although the Portuguese internationals are more likely to return to training in early August.

Nuno Mendes Remains PSG’s Main Concern

The main concern is Nuno Mendes. The left-back came off with a thigh injury against Spain, and PSG will wait for medical tests to determine the exact severity of the problem. At this stage, his presence for the UEFA Super Cup remains uncertain.

Other PSG players are already on holiday after their national teams were eliminated. Ibrahim Mbaye, Willian Pacho and Marquinhos should therefore return early enough to prepare for the clash against Aston Villa. The situation is less clear for the French internationals and Achraf Hakimi, whose immediate schedule will depend on the result of France vs Morocco on Thursday.

Without taking potential new signings into account, Luis Enrique could already have a very competitive squad available. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier were already on holiday and should be ready. PSG could therefore field a strong team, even if some key players may still be short of match rhythm.

A possible PSG line-up against Aston Villa: Safonov – Zabarnyi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Beraldo – Vitinha, João Neves, Doué – Kvaratskhelia, Mbaye, Mayulu.

One thing is certain: between holiday returns, the physical condition of internationals and the still-open transfer window, PSG’s line-up could still change significantly before August 12.
