On Wednesday in Doha, PSG play a match for the global football stage: the Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo. Europe versus South America, stars versus passion, favorites versus a highly motivated underdog.
This is PSG’s final challenge of 2025. After the Champions League and the Super Cup, Paris are chasing the Intercontinental Cup. It is a rare match in a career, since European clubs can only qualify by winning the Champions League.
A global final with contrasting styles
On the Brazilian side, there is no inferiority complex, but plenty of respect. Filipe Luís expects his team to suffer, while watching closely for any Parisian weakness. The players truly believe it: Varela, Carrascal, and veteran Danilo all insist that over 90 minutes, even PSG can stumble.
Safonov or Chevalier? In Paris, Luis Enrique is still hesitating. In goal, Safonov has earned points, but Lucas Chevalier, back from injury, currently has the edge. In defense, Marquinhos remains uncertain. The captain could start—or watch the opening stages from the bench.
PSG are expected to line up in a 4-3-3, with a Vitinha–Neves–Ruiz midfield and an attacking trio of Dembélé, Doué, and Kava. The aim is to dominate possession and control the tempo. Flamengo will wait for the slightest opening. Two continents, two styles, one trophy—and 90 minutes to avoid a nightmare scenario, in pursuit of an almost perfect year.
The probable PSG lineup: (4-3-3) Goalkeeper: Safonov or Chevalier. Defense: Zaïre-Emery, Marquinhos or Zabarnyi, Pacho, Mendes. Midfield: Vitinha, Neves, Ruiz. Attack: Dembélé, Doué, Kava.
