French media L’Equipe revisits the Mbappé saga this Monday: everything might have been calculated, but Luis Enrique isn’t pleased… at all.

Was Mbappé being replaced during PSG-Rennes just a footnote? Not according to L’Equipe. The sports newspaper asserts that Luis Enrique didn’t appreciate this announcement made to the club and the team right in the middle of a critical period for PSG’s ambitions, just before the resumption of the Champions League.

However, the two men briefly exchanged words, but nothing leaked about their conversation. “Luis Enrique isn’t one for individual meetings. Therefore, one had to wait for the lineup from the former Spain coach to draw conclusions” about Mbappé’s future months. And Sunday night made it clear: Mbappé was replaced, and Luis Enrique announced that PSG “must learn to play without Kylian.”

Mbappé didn’t say anything before January… because of the winter transfer window

Luis Enrique is reportedly frustrated behind the scenes by this decision, especially regarding the timing. “For now, the impact on the rest of the squad isn’t visible, but it will undoubtedly be something to watch in the coming weeks,” assesses Le Parisien.

Kylian Mbappé himself apparently carefully considered the timing of his announcement… to avoid being pressured by PSG. Speaking to the club on February 13 was no coincidence. “He wanted to wait until January had passed, even though his decision was made. This way, he could avoid the club pressuring him to leave during the winter transfer window,” concludes L’Equipe.
