Les Bleus will also have to deal with a heatwave. On Saturday, against Paraguay in the World Cup round of 16, France will not only have to manage their opponent. In Philadelphia, extreme heat could become a real factor in the match.
Is the Four Seasons in Boston air-conditioned? Hopefully, and it probably is. Because Les Bleus will need rest before a round of 16 clash that promises to be scorching, and not only on the pitch.
France Face Paraguay in Sweltering Philadelphia Conditions
Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. local time, right in the middle of a heatwave alert on the United States East Coast. A heat dome is currently affecting part of the country, with perceived temperatures potentially climbing to 40 or even 46 degrees in some areas.
In Philadelphia, temperatures are expected to drop slightly on Saturday but remain very high, around 36 or 37 degrees. In these conditions, cooling breaks could play an important role in allowing the players to recover.
And that is not the only danger. Thunderstorms are also possible in the afternoon, inevitably bringing back memories of the France-Iraq match, which was interrupted for nearly two hours because of lightning. In the United States, the protocol is strict: if lightning is detected within a 13 km radius of the stadium, the match must be stopped. Between Paraguay, the heat and the risk of storms, Les Bleus are therefore preparing to play a round of 16 clash under extreme tension.
