Kang-in Lee is officially an Atlético Madrid player, but he is still unable to travel to Spain. Transferred by Paris Saint-Germain for around €40 million, the South Korean international has been held up in Seoul by an unusual administrative issue.
Kang-in Lee has not yet fully begun his new life in Madrid. After three seasons at PSG, the 25-year-old was expected to quickly join his new club and start pre-season training under Diego Simeone. However, his arrival in the Spanish capital has been delayed by the authorities in his home country.
A Travel Permit Is Delaying His Move to Madrid
According to Marca, Kang-in Lee still needs to complete several formalities linked to his exemption from military service. The attacking midfielder was excused from the obligation after winning a gold medal with South Korea at the 2023 Asian Games, but the exemption does not mean that all administrative procedures have been completed.
Lee remains part of the programme for arts and sports personnel and must renew his permit to travel abroad. Without this document, he cannot board a flight to Madrid. Atlético are therefore waiting for the situation to be resolved, even though his transfer has already been officially announced.
It is a highly unusual situation: Kang-in Lee has left PSG and officially belongs to Atlético Madrid, but he is still not authorised to join his new club.
