Javier Pastore, former PSG player, believes the club has nothing to blame itself for. If Lionel Messi left, it’s rather because… of the French.

Booed by the Parc des Princes crowd towards the end of his stint at Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi, aged 36, didn’t leave a great impression on Parisian fans.

According to former PSG player Javier Pastore, the French are to blame for the tensions with his Argentine compatriot.

“This delicate situation was caused more by the French than by the club. From the outside, the club tried to protect itself because it is always there and will always be there. And people will continue to go to the stadium to see their club. A club will never take the side of the player, never, because it has much more support than just one player, even if he’s the best in the world.”

“But the French were very hurt by the World Cup, by many things, and they didn’t even forgive him for a bad pass. They felt resentment. And they booed him, just as they booed Neymar, incredibly. The French are tough, it’s hard to convince them. I was lucky, I was loved from the first day, and they showed me affection that I am grateful for. Sometimes, I don’t understand why they love me so much,” confessed Pastore to La Nación on Thursday.
