Paris Saint-Germain have once again significantly strengthened their squad this summer. With the arrivals of Ferran Torres, Mika Godts, Maghnes Akliouche and Lucas Digne, combined with the emergence of several young players, Luis Enrique now has an impressively deep group at his disposal.
Have PSG become stronger this summer? Very probably. The pecking order remains fluid, especially with the transfer window still open. Bradley Barcola’s situation also inevitably affects the projections: the France international is expected to leave, with Liverpool pushing to sign him. As things stand, Paris can already field an extremely strong A team and a B team more than capable of competing at the top of Ligue 1.
Two PSG Teams Packed With Quality
Team A: PSG’s strongest XI. Matvey Safonov currently appears to have the edge in goal. Ahead of him, the first-choice defence features Achraf Hakimi on the right, Marquinhos and Willian Pacho in central defence, and Nuno Mendes on the left. In midfield, Vitinha and João Neves look indispensable, while Fabian Ruiz remains slightly ahead thanks to his experience and ability to balance the team. However, Warren Zaïre-Emery will provide serious competition and could quickly shake up the hierarchy depending on his form and Luis Enrique’s decisions. Up front, the competition is fierce. Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia remain key figures, while Désiré Doué now has everything required to establish himself permanently in the starting XI. Ferran Torres provides another top-class option. Team A: Safonov – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes – Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, João Neves – Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Kvaratskhelia.
Zaïre-Emery, the not-so-substitute. Although he appears in Team B here, Warren Zaïre-Emery should certainly not be considered merely a rotation player. The French midfielder will be one of Fabian Ruiz’s main competitors and can also cover several positions, particularly at right-back. Luis Enrique values his versatility, work rate and ability to drive forward. Over such a long season, Zaïre-Emery should play a huge number of minutes and could quickly regain a starting role in the biggest matches.
Team B: incredible squad depth. This is where PSG’s depth becomes particularly impressive. Lucas Chevalier starts in goal, with Warren Zaïre-Emery at right-back, Ilya Zabarnyi and Lucas Hernandez in central defence, and Lucas Digne on the left. In midfield, Senny Mayulu operates on the left, Dro Fernandez on the right, with Lucas Beraldo completing the trio and providing a more defensive option. Up front, Bradley Barcola’s expected departure changes the picture, with Maghnes Akliouche taking his place alongside Mika Godts and Ferran Torres. Team B: Chevalier – Zaïre-Emery, Zabarnyi, Lucas Hernandez, Digne – Mayulu, Dro Fernandez, Beraldo – Mika Godts, Ferran Torres, Akliouche. This line-up is obviously theoretical, as Luis Enrique has never really operated with fixed A and B teams. But on paper, PSG effectively have two complete high-level starting XIs, even if Barcola leaves. Between established starters, new signings and emerging youngsters, competition for places is set to be fierce this season.
