According to Sport, Frenkie de Jong has reached an agreement with FC Barcelona: no departure but an extension, despite PSG’s interest.

In recent days, Frenkie de Jong has been frustrated by rumors about his desire to leave. PSG is reportedly willing to offer €60 million to bring him in next summer. However, according to the Spanish press, the door has already been partially closed.

According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, Frenkie de Jong has a secret pact with FC Barcelona. The Barcelona sporting director, Deco, along with the player’s agent, discussed his future at a trendy restaurant in Barcelona. This was to dispel any misunderstandings as rumors circulated that Barcelona might be willing to sell to replenish their coffers.

But Deco reportedly confirmed that Frenkie de Jong is “one of Barcelona’s pillars.” According to Sport, the club has promised to renew his contract, which expires in 2026. On his part, the player is not seeking to leave in the meantime. The pact would therefore be sealed between the two parties, much to PSG’s dismay.

De Jong Expresses Frustration in Press Conference

The player surprised in a press conference this week, addressing rumors about him. “Lately, I’m a bit angry about what the press writes. Things that come out are not true. Aren’t you ashamed of what you publish? (…) I don’t understand why they say things that are lies. It irritates me.”

“I think what you need to change is what you do with many players and coaches, writing things that are not true (…) The squad consists of several people. Sometimes I hear that I’m not at the level of Barcelona. I think the press should change and stop writing lies about me (…) The press sometimes criticizes my level, which is not a problem, as everyone can have their opinion. But I don’t accept lies.”

“It’s a lot of smoke, a lot of lies, that I’m asking for around €40 million… The truth is that it’s far from reality. I won’t say numbers, but they’ve invented a story that isn’t true. I’m very happy at Barcelona. It’s the club of my dreams. I hope to continue playing for Barcelona for many years.”
