The transfer market battle between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona could heat up quickly. As both European giants continue to monitor some of the continent’s most promising young players, a new name is already attracting plenty of attention: Jorge Salinas.
According to reports from the Spanish media, including Sport, Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas is on the verge of joining Barcelona. However, the Catalan club has faced strong competition to gain the upper hand in a deal that has attracted interest from across Europe.
Barcelona Moves Ahead for Salinas
After an impressive season with Racing Santander, recently promoted to La Liga, the 19-year-old defender caught the eye of numerous clubs. Comfortable both as a left-back and a central defender, the Spain U19 international is regarded as one of the brightest prospects of his generation.
Barcelona appear to have taken the lead thanks to the player’s desire to move to Catalonia and the excellent relationship between the club and his agent, Jorge Mendes. The Blaugrana hierarchy is eager to finalize the deal before June 30, as Salinas’ release clause is expected to double from €8 million to €16 million on July 1.
PSG remain attentive to the situation, as Salinas fits perfectly into the club’s recruitment strategy focused on high-potential young talents. While Paris are not currently among the most advanced suitors, Luis Campos and his scouting team continue to closely monitor the market. Barcelona may be leading the race for now, but when a top European prospect becomes available at an affordable price, PSG are rarely far behind.
