On the eve of the clash against Tottenham, Luis Enrique addressed current topics: Hakimi, the resilience of the group, the young players, Marquinhos, Dembélé… The PSG coach appears calm and decidedly optimistic.
Luis Enrique trusts his squad. Despite two absences, including Hakimi, and Doué. Regarding Hakimi’s absence, the coach prefers to remain reserved. “I am the coach of PSG, we are playing against Tottenham tomorrow. I congratulate Hakimi on his trophy, but I have no thoughts on his return to competition today.” He quickly moves on to the group’s mindset, highlighting an essential asset. “This is a characteristic that the team showed last year. If there is too much excitement around the team, I try to be calmer.”
Optimistic, he expresses great satisfaction with the current level. “Many players are scoring and providing assists. We have scored more goals than last year. We are forming a real team… I am very happy.” Luis Enrique also emphasizes the contribution of the young players, who are now well integrated into the project. “There are very young players who can help the team. There are still others who can help.”
“Every return from injury is difficult to manage”
As he prepares to face Tottenham, he recalls a mixed memory (during the Club World Cup last summer). “A good memory because it ended well, but a bad one if I think back to the first 60 minutes. Tottenham is a strong team.” When asked about Kolo Muani, he remains measured. “He is an international player, very high level. He has the ability to be important in any team, but it is difficult to value that.”
Regarding Dembélé, maximum caution is advised. “Every return from injury is difficult to manage. We are more attentive than usual.” The coach also pays tribute to Marquinhos, who is close to a historic milestone. “If he is fit, he will play his 500th match… He is a true leader.” On the difficulties in the first half, he reminds that the causes are multiple. “It’s not just one thing, it’s multifactorial.”
Finally, he believes his team is more solid defensively. “My feeling about defensive positioning is that it is better.” And for Dembélé, the suspense remains light: “If there are no issues, he will be among the players called up.”
