PSG-Arsenal: Marquinhos Reveals What He Told Gabriel

Just seconds after winning the Champions League against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 on penalties), Marquinhos did not run to celebrate with the fans or his teammates. Instead, the PSG captain immediately headed toward Gabriel, his Brazilian compatriot, whose missed penalty handed the trophy to the Parisian club.

Speaking at a press conference with the Brazilian national team, the PSG defender revealed what was said between the two players after the dramatic final.

Marquinhos Shows Class After PSG Triumph

“I told him to keep his head up, that he had an incredible season, that he was the best defender in the world this season. And that he did not deserve to carry that burden alone. Nothing about that moment could erase the wonderful season he had, and we will really need him here,” Marquinhos explained.

The PSG captain admitted that the scene immediately reminded him of his own painful experience at the 2022 World Cup. “I was already ready to celebrate, but as soon as I started running, I had the image of Gabi in my mind. It was the same feeling I had when I missed my own penalty at the 2022 World Cup. At that moment, I turned toward my teammate to show empathy.”

Still marked by that difficult memory, Marquinhos said he knew exactly what Gabriel was going through. “Because I have experienced a moment like that myself, I know how heavy it can be. It is part of our career,” concluded the Brazilian defender, offering a classy gesture in one of the greatest moments of his own career.
