Luis Enrique is looking to make a major statement in the transfer market. According to several Spanish sources, the PSG manager has identified Jules Koundé as one of his top priorities to strengthen the defense ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
A move to Paris appears to be a real possibility. Luis Enrique is said to highly value the versatility of the French international, who can play both as a central defender and at right-back. PSG are reportedly eager to accelerate negotiations with FC Barcelona in an attempt to finalize the deal quickly.
Koundé Addresses His Future
However, the player himself does not seem to share the same enthusiasm. Speaking at a press conference with the French national team, Koundé made his position very clear. “I have a contract until 2030, and in my mind things are quite clear. Until further notice, I am a Barcelona player and I hope to remain there next season,” said the former Sevilla defender.
His comments have cooled PSG’s ambitions, at least publicly. Yet transfer market history shows that contracted players rarely speak openly about potential moves. Barcelona could still be tempted by a major sale to fund its summer plans, particularly with interest in signing Julián Álvarez, a deal that could exceed €150 million. Koundé remains one of the club’s most valuable assets and could generate a significant transfer fee.
For now, though, the French defender’s message is unmistakable. Despite PSG’s interest and Barcelona’s financial considerations, Jules Koundé has no intention of leaving Catalonia this summer. At least, that is the official stance for the moment.
