FC Barcelona, facing financial constraints, has turned to loans for transfers. João Cancelo and João Felix arrive for the season, while Ansu Fati departs.

João Felix gets a fresh start, but not just anywhere. The Atletico Madrid player is sent to Barcelona. According to Barcelona’s statement, “FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement on the loan of the Portuguese player, who will play for FC Barcelona until June 30, 2024. There is no option to buy. The club appreciates the player for his economic effort and desire to wear the Barça shirt.”

Simultaneously, João Felix has extended his contract with Madrid and is now tied to the Colchoneros until 2028.

In a surprising move, Ansu Fati is sent on loan to Brighton, despite interest from larger clubs. The 20-year-old will attempt to rejuvenate his career in England, as he faces competition at Barcelona from Raphinha, Torres, and the young talent Lamine Yamal (16 years old).

Manchester City has also agreed to a deal. João Cancelo joins FC Barcelona after spending the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich. Manchester City’s statement reads, “Joao Cancelo has joined Barcelona on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. Everyone at Manchester City wishes Joao the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
