The day after the celebrations marking PSG’s second consecutive Champions League title, the Parisian club released a statement thanking its supporters while strongly condemning the incidents of violence and vandalism that occurred in several areas of Paris.
PSG chose to begin its message on a positive note. The club praised the incredible enthusiasm shown throughout the weekend, from Budapest to the Champ-de-Mars and the Parc des Princes. Paris Saint-Germain described a city “vibrating” with excitement and highlighted the extraordinary connection between the team and its supporters following another European triumph.
PSG Condemns Disorder After Celebrations
However, the club’s leaders also felt it necessary to denounce the violence and property damage that accompanied parts of the celebrations. In its statement, PSG stressed that such acts “do not reflect either the values of football or the spirit of this celebration.” The club reiterated that football should remain a symbol of unity, commitment, and solidarity.
“Our team demonstrates that football is synonymous with unity, commitment, and solidarity. From Budapest to the Parc des Princes via the Champ-de-Mars, our supporters have shown that this passion brings people together,” PSG wrote. Despite the festive atmosphere, a 24-year-old man lost his life in a scooter accident, while hundreds of rioters were taken into police custody. Burned vehicles and looted stores tarnished what should have been a joyful evening, continuing a troubling pattern that has unfortunately become associated with major celebrations.
PSG concluded its statement by thanking law enforcement officers, emergency services, public workers, supporters, and all French fans who stood behind the club throughout its successful European campaign. The club emphasized its gratitude to everyone who helped make this latest Champions League triumph possible while ensuring the safety and organization of the celebrations.
