PSG Return Delayed as Luis Enrique Faces World Cup Headache

Paris Saint-Germain already know when they will return to training. According to RMC Sport, Luis Enrique’s squad will officially resume work on July 25 at the PSG Campus in Poissy. It is an unusually late restart, as the French champions typically return to training around July 10.

Will PSG have a full squad available in August? The answer is already no. The club’s late return means some players will have spent nearly two months away from the training ground. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose Georgia side failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, along with Lucas Chevalier and Dro Fernandez, who were not selected by their national teams, are among those expected back from day one.

World Cup Impact on PSG Preparation

The reason behind the delayed schedule is the 2026 World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. PSG will be one of the most heavily represented clubs at the tournament, with 16 internationals spread across nine different national teams. French stars Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Lucas Hernandez will be involved, alongside Portuguese internationals Vitinha, João Neves, Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos. Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi, Fabian Ruiz and Willian Pacho will also take part.

Those players will receive rest periods based on how far their countries progress in the competition. Players eliminated before the semi-finals will be granted four weeks of vacation, while finalists and semi-finalists will have only three weeks to recover. As a result, some of PSG’s key figures may not return to training until around August 10, with competitive action potentially delayed until September. Luis Enrique is also expected to continue offering personalized recovery schedules to manage the effects of the shortened summer break.

The situation creates a major challenge for the Spanish coach, whose team faces a packed August schedule. PSG are set to play a friendly against Manchester United on August 8, the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa on August 12, and the Trophée des Champions against Lens on August 16, before beginning their Ligue 1 title defense one week later.
