Didier Deschamps’ era with the French national team could come to an end much sooner than expected. Even though France still has a third-place match to play at the 2026 World Cup, the French Football Federation is reportedly already preparing to appoint Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach.
The FFF is eager to move quickly. The former Real Madrid manager is expected to be officially announced next Thursday or Friday. His contract is reportedly ready, and the federation hopes to secure his signature before July 21, highlighting how rapidly this new chapter is taking shape.
Zinedine Zidane Set to Begin a New Era with France
France’s elimination against Spain in the World Cup semi-finals is believed to have accelerated the process. Although Didier Deschamps has not yet officially left his position, his successor appears to have already been chosen, with only the final details of the appointment still being completed.
Zidane is expected to earn around €300,000 per month before bonuses, with performance-related incentives potentially increasing his salary to €450,000 per month. He is also reportedly planning to bring a large coaching staff of more than 25 people as he looks to launch a new era and quickly return France to the top after Deschamps’ 14-year reign.
